Keep it small enough to do on an ordinary weeknight. Three habits cover most of the ground.
Start at the door
Keep a towel where you come in. Wipe away everyday dirt, dry damp paws, and take a quick look at the pads. If they feel dry, that’s a separate moisture job. Actual mud still needs actual cleaning.
